Itinerary

Arrive in Bangkok and begin with a visit to Wat Benjamabophit, a 19th-century marvel of Thai architecture with marble walls and stained-glass windows. Explore the Grand Palace, the historic residence of Siamese kings, and Vimanmek Mansion, the world’s largest golden teakwood palace, built without a single nail. Visit Wat Pho, Bangkok’s oldest temple, housing over 1,000 Buddha images. In the afternoon, cruise the Chao Phraya River and Thonburi’s khlongs, where Bangkok was founded, before admiring the mysterious Golden Buddha at Wat Traimit, the world’s largest gold statue.
Overnight in Bangkok. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Travel to Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, a 17th-century blend of Eastern and Western styles. Continue to Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former Thai capital. Explore Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon’s monasteries and tombs, Wat Mahathat’s iconic Buddha head entwined in tree roots, Wat Phra Mongkhon Bophit’s bronze Buddha, and Wat Phra Si Sanphet’s three iconic chedis. Return to Bangkok.

Fly to Chiang Mai and ascend 3,500 feet to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a 1383 temple housing a Buddha relic. Climb 306 steps to admire golden pillars and panoramic city views. In the afternoon, visit Thai Elephant Home for a hands-on experience, learning about elephant care and behaviors. Enjoy a Khantoke dinner with traditional Thai folk dances.
